Spotlight: nbn Community Session

On Monday, November 17 we have a representative from the National Broadband Network (nbn) coming to the library to discuss how to stay safe online over the festive season. They will have all the latest information about scams that are circulating and will be able to answer your questions. The talk will start at 12pm, with tea and coffee provided. Bookings are essential, so please call the library on (02) 6740 2190 to book your place.

Spotlight: Era Books Online

Another fantastic e-resource that you can access through the library is Era Books Online.

You will find a wide range of picture books that you can either read on the screen, or you can have them read to you. There are guided readers that increase in difficulty over several levels, with accompanying teacher guides for each level that outline the learning outcomes and provide activities to re-enforce reading skills, decodable readers that feature specific sounds, picture books and games that teach important skills like telling the time, math concepts, and science facts, as well as beautiful story books that will delight young readers.

Search for Era Books Online, download the app and enter your library barcode to start reading!

Spotlight: New books

Whoever thought of the title How Not to Become a Grumpy Old Bugger (362 HUT) by Geoff Hutchison deserves a medal! Geoff was determined not to become one of those proverbial ‘grumpy buggers’, the type of older men who gather in sad groups and bemoan the modern world. (You know who you are!) As a journalist, he wanted to know why ageing tends to have this effect on Australian men, and what can be done to arrest that development?

Meg Bignell’s new title The Good Losers (AFA BIG) is ready to go! When Callie March pushes her screen-addicted teenage son to join the local rowing club, she is thrust into a world of irrational obsessions, unseemly intrigue, insufferable dickheads and riverside ‘romances’. Her suspicions are soon raised, and she becomes determined to find out what lurks behind the closed doors of the rowing club.

Mary swaps her lamb for something a little bigger in Mary Had a Monstersaur (EASY D) by Mike Dumbleton and Peter Bath. Mary discovers a dinosaur behind the garden shed and he follows her to school, with unexpected results. A sweet, rhyming story about differences and kindness.
