With one in five children having a vision problem, an eye examination is high on the back to school check list.

Children often don’t complain of vision problems as they think everyone sees the same way they do.

Often problems can go unnoticed until they have already begun to affect learning, performance or behaviour.

Signs like headaches, difficulty reading, or trouble concentrating may all point to an underlying vision issue.

With children relying on their eyesight for around 80 per cent of learning in the classroom, even small problems can have a big impact.

At Vision Splendid, we believe eye exams should be a key part of back-to-school preparation. During a child’s eye examination, our Optometrists assess not just clarity of vision, but how the eyes work together and how healthy they are as they grow.

We’re proud to use advanced imaging technology, including the Optos ultra-widefield camera, which captures up to 200 degrees of the light sensing tissue in the eye (retina) – far more than traditional eye photography. This allows us to see areas of the eye that were previously difficult to examine, helping us detect issues earlier and more accurately.

We combine this with fundus autofluorescence, a specialised image that helps assess the health of retinal cells. This is especially valuable in children, as it can reveal early changes long before vision is affected.
