Five drivers from Gunnedah Speedway Club earned podium placings, as the quintet competed in the Australia Day Long Weekend race meet at the Gilgandra speedway track last Saturday and Sunday nights.

Charlette Keeler and Todd Keeler placed second on the first night, with Charlette in the Junior New Stars while Todd was in the Street Stockers.

On the same night, Bailey Jackson was the runner-up while Clinton Hall was the third placegetter in the Junior All Stars.

Charlette made it two runner-up placings in 24 hours, as she placed second in the New Star category on the Sunday night.

Also on the second night, Bailey took out top spot while Clinton came third in the All Star Championships.

Grant Jackson also earned a top-three placing, as he achieved the last of the podium positions in the Fast Fours.

All competitors battled extreme heat conditions, especially on the latter night, with the temperature reaching 42.2 degrees at 6.30pm when the juniors took to the track.

A spokesperson from the Gunnedah Speedway Club said the racing from the juniors “was some of the best we have seen”.

“Their confidence and dedication to the sport is a credit to them all,” the spokesperson said.
