Club Gunnedah Bowls had some great results while hosting the final round of the North West Region open gender pennant home-and-away season for the Division 4 and Division 6 representative sides last Saturday.

Winning the North West Region Div 4 pennant enabled the Gunnedah team to qualify for the state finals in Nowra during August, when the top 16 teams in NSW battle it out for the NSW Div 4 pennant.

After five matches the Div 4 side needed to beat South Tamworth to secure the North West Region flag.

A strong performance from Gunnedah’s three rinks enabled the hosts to record an impressive 76-45 victory.

The win was spearheaded by 15-year-old skip Jake Martin and his team of Caleb Cameron, Freddy Pryor and Andrew Cameron who blew their highly rated opposition off the green with a resounding 34-7 win.

Keith Hubbard and his team of Brett Green, Gary ‘Buck’ Fordham and Barry Robbins won 19-16 while Mark Boyd’s team of Brodie Towns, Wayne Hosking and John Clark made it a clean sweep with a 23-22 triumph.

Club Gunnedah’s Div 6 side hosted Manilla last Saturday, with the visiting team proving too strong.

Gunnedah’s Div 6 team fielded numerous debutants this season, and the experience gained will no doubt lead to an improved showing next year.
