SHERIDAN LEWIS – CARPET COURT & TAPS TUBS N TILES.
HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
I have been in business for a total of four years.
The last three years have been with Gunnedah Carpet Court & Taps Tubs n Tiles. My first year in business was when I was operating my own family home day care service whilst registered to Gunnedah Family Day Care.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT WORK ENVIRONMENT?
I would classify Carpet Court & Taps Tubs n Tiles as more of project management rather than retail as we have three qualified layers out on the tools every day. My position is assisting customers with their forever homes or rental properties from flooring and bathrooms, through to blinds and awnings and expands into behind the scenes for marketing, banking, inventory and much more! It is rewarding to be as busy as I am. During the time I have worked in this industry, I worked closely with our Fienza rep to create our bathroom ‘Moderniser Package Deal for $2699.00’ to make renovating more affordable for everyone.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS HAVE YOU ACCUMULATED?
I have completed a Certificate IV in Business, a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and am currently studying my Certificate IV in Human Recourses.
WHAT ARE YOU PROUD OF IN YOURSELF?
How far I have come with how hard I have worked.
I have learnt that you can have whatever you want in life, but you must work for it.
I have worked two jobs at any given time, from the age of 14-21, including when I have been studying and have worked for everything I have. I encourage everyone to work hard.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ADVICE.
RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Award.
It’s a seven-day personal and professional development course.
I attended as a participant and the following year invited back as a leader. I encourage local businesses to explore this with their young employees.
WORK / LIFE BALANCE.
I wake every day with motivation and purpose. I start every morning with some form of fitness that entails watching the sunrise and most importantly drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure I can function to the best of my abilities. Weekends are spent decompressing and unwinding as much as I can in the sun, so I am ready for the following week.
INSPIRATION.
My inspiration for becoming a successful business owner comes from Kim Hamilton. Kim is not only my mentor at work she is also my mother-in-law and a very smart and capable woman with years of experience in not only the flooring industry but in operating businesses. She is a wealth of knowledge and experiences. Kim encourages me every day to become a successful businesswoman, teaching me her ways which have proven to be successful after years in business herself.
