Gunnedah Ladies’ Golf Club open day was a huge success with visitors travelling from Armidale, Boggabri, Coonabarabran, Manilla, Narrabri, Tamworth, Wee Waa and Werris Creek to join local golfers in a fourball stableford last Sunday.
Fifty-two players hit the greens for 18 holes in brilliant autumn sunshine after a crisp start to the day, raising a total of $952 for the Gunnedah branch of Can Assist.
The 18-hole winners were Jan Keppie and Kerrie Ward, of Coonabarabran, with the runners-up Helen Baker and Alison Dawson-Bee from the host club.
Michelle Johnston, from Gunnedah, teamed up with her daughter Emily Flood, of Narrabri, to win the 18 holes fourball scratch, ahead of Tamworth pair Stephanie King and Tracey Pitt.
The fourball stableford winners for holes 1-9 were Liz Jones and Karen Davis, of Boggabri, with Armidale’s Amanda Carr and Liz O’Hara winning on holes 10-18.
The teams’ event was won by Jan Keppie, Kerrie Ward, Michelle Johnston and Emily Flood, with 84 points on a countback.
Straight drives were won by Judy Lamb (Manilla) in Division 1, with Manilla’s Michelle Court winning Division 2, and Gunnedah’s Penny Crawford in Division 3.
Nearest the pin on the 2nd hole was Jan Keppie (Coonabarabran), with the 3rd hole (second shot) going to Steph King (Tamworth), and the 7th hole to Judy Lamb (Manilla).
Winners in the ball competition were Jacinta Stanley, Kay Clarke, Jenny Fisher, Jan Moore, Judy Lamb, Fay Hausfeld, Taryn Maher, Penny Crawford, Lyn Pollock and Lyn Jonczyk.
The organising committee has expressed appreciation to major sponsors Reaqua, Australia’s leading distributer of Lorenz Solar Tim, Judy and Monty Lee, brothers Tim, Ben and Jock Lee, their cousin Patrick Lee who are all part of the Reaqua team. This is the second year the open day has been sponsored by the business.
Earlier in the week, 19 golfers hit off in a stableford consistency Round 3.
Sally Toppin won Division 1 with 34 on a countback from Kay Clarke.
Division 2 was won by Marge Clift with 35 from Joan Bray who carded 34. Di Hasler won Division 3 with 32 points.
Val Billsborough was nearest the pin on the 2nd hole and Helen Baker on the 7th. Balls went to Sally Toppin, Kay Clarke, Cecily Jaeger, Marge Clift, Val Billsborough, and Joan Bray.
Thursday’s event was a three-ball ambrose, sponsored by The Verdict Coffee Shop. The winners were Michelle Johnston, Diana Grosser, and Jenny Hughes with 55 2/3, followed by Judy Lee, Nancye Farquhar, and Sally Toppin with 58 2/3 on a countback. Michelle Johnston was nearest the pin on the 2nd and Di Hasler on the 7th. Balls went to the winners and runners-up.
