Gunnedah Junior Soccer held its last round of the season earlier this month, followed by a presentation just before the grounds were swallowed up with floodwater eight hours later.

In what had already been a disrupted season due to rain and washouts, the committee decided to push on with finals.

The kids certainly appreciated the efforts with some great grand final action on display.

The 13/16 year old grand final between Mannion Drilling and Courthouse Hotel finished locked at 3-3. With no extra time in the grand final the minor premiers Mannion Drilling took home the title.

The grand final player of the match was Reuben Bekker who has been outstanding all season.

Best and fairest for the 13/16 season was Mason Louis (Mannion Drilling) and runner up was Kolt Pryor (Courthouse Hotel).

In the 11/12 yrs grand final PJ Plumbing was too strong for a determined Carwash outfit. The final score was 4-0 with young-gun Kade Bush scoring a hat trick.

The grand final player of the match was Flynn Royall who was great on the wing and in the midfield.

Best and fairest for the 11/12 season was Marnee Walters (NFS AG) and runner up was Aiden Lewington (Aztec).

Many Fabrications defeated Crossfit Gunnedah in the final of 9/10s and all players received trophies.

The club provided a sausage sizzle and drink for every player to enjoy before the awards presentation began.

The Terry Swain Memorial-Dedication to Soccer Award (Senior) went to club president Matt Davis. Matt co-ordinated the junior training sessions throughout the season as well as coached, refereed, cooked barbecues and set up fields each week.

The ‘Boyd Family – Dedication to Soccer’ was awarded to Zara and Grace Mannion. The girls have played each week in regular junior comp then backed up and travelled for Gunnedah FC in the senior competition playing well beyond their years.

Senior Club Person of the Year was a team effort awarded to club secretary Helen Cygan and husband Andy. Helen has overseen the smooth running of a huge season which saw record registrations and coordinated the hugely successful gala day. Andy coached the senior Gunnedah FC side as well as playing and scoring for them too. He also worked tirelessly at the fields with marking and maintenance throughout the season.

Junior Referee Achievement Award for 2022 went to Jesse Giles, Emily Watson, Kate Gander, James Strofeldt, Isabella Sawyer and Daniella Young with the 2022 Junior Referee of the Year being awarded to Jessie Giles.

The club thanked Belinda Barrow and Lisa Davis who ran the junior soccer canteen this year and all the amazing volunteers who assisted throughout the season.
