Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club members gathered for the first dinner meeting of the year last week, with the election of office bearers for 2025 and recognition for Kate Knight and Linda Lee who received Australia Day awards.
Long-serving member Michelle Riordan was also honoured with her 30-year membership pin, presented by VIEW national councillor Aletia Norman. Michelle was one of the early members of the club, which was formed in 1990, and over the years has taken an active role in committee positions and fund-raising activities. She has twice been guest speaker talking about her lavender farm and her role in the family business at Gunnedah Chiropractic.
Unable to attend the Australia Day awards dinner, Kate Knight and Linda Lee were presented with their awards by Marie Hobson who accepted on their behalf. The dynamic duo received accolades in the Community Achievement category, recognising their service through Can Assist, which raises funds and helps supports locals going through treatment for cancer. Their long commitment to Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club was also recognised. The women’s friendship group raises funds for disadvantaged students through the Smith Family charity’s Learning for Life program.
The election of office bearers was presided over by Aletia Norman who thanked all committee members for their commitment to the club, and the time given in organising fund-raising activities and ensuring they ran smoothly.
Michelle Riordan received her 30 year membership pin from Aletia Norman national councillor.
“I would especially like to thank you on behalf of your Learning for Life students,” she said.
Kate Knight was returned as president, with Judy Sills continuing in her role of vice-president. Linda Lee was again elected secretary, assisted by Deirdre Andren, with Liz Ironmonger returned unopposed as treasurer assisted by Aldyth Hailes. Kerry Keating will continue in her role as program officer assisted by Glen Jones. The publicity officer’s position will be held by Marie Hobson who with Raelee Bruce will also be the delegate to zone meetings.
Following the monthly general meeting, the ‘friend reveal’ was held amid much fun and laughter as each member discovered her ‘secret friend’ from the past 12 months. Members shared a gift with the ‘friend’ who had been looking after them on the quiet over the past year, remembering birthdays and other special occasions.
A new Friend in VIEW will be allocated for the coming year.
With International Women’s Day coming up, members have been invited to a special celebration in Glen Innes on March 8, while bookings are also open for the national convention in Brisbane from September 5-7.
