Gunnedah’s Murray O’Keefe has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer for Stripes Group.

The family owned and operated business based in Gunnedah is a leading supplier of construction materials, equipment and services. The operation is focused on the growing civil, infrastructure and mining markets in the public and private sectors.

Murray enters the Stripes’ CEO role with more than 15 years’ experience leading teams with a diverse background in senior leadership roles within the mining industry across the Gunnedah basin and Hunter Valley. A highlight was being awarded the Young Achiever Award at the 2017 NSW Mining Industry and Suppliers’ Awards. This award recognises an inspirational young professional aged between 18-35 years who is building a successful career in mining.

Murray was delighted to now take on the leadership position at Stripes.

“I’m honoured to lead Stripes Group as we build on our strong Gunnedah roots. As we write the next chapter of the Stripes story in regional Australia, we’re creating more local jobs, strengthening the Gunnedah community, and staying true to the values that have always driven our success,” Murray said.

The Stripes Group was established in 2006 by Jamie and Judy Chaffey – an extension of Judy’s parents’ business, Gunnedah Industries.

Jamie successfully led the Stripes team since its inception but in September officially stepped down as the managing director to focus on the upcoming Federal election where he is running as the Nationals candidate for the Federal seat of Parkes.

“We have now handed the business onto our children and are proud that the business is in capable hands for the third generation, with several family members operating multiple diverse business units,” Jamie said.

“With an exciting period of growth ahead for the group, the appointment of Murray O’Keefe as Chief Executive Officer aligns perfectly with our commitment to supporting and developing our region.”

Son Jack Chaffey said the Stripes Group has been built on family, community, and opportunity.

“I’m proud to see it enter this next chapter with Murray O’Keefe as CEO, his leadership will drive the business forward while staying true to our values,” he said.

“At the same time, I fully support my father as he steps into this next chapter, knowing his dedication will make a real impact for our community.

“This is an exciting time for both Stripes and the region we live in”.
