Swimming Gunnedah is developing a solid base for the upcoming representative season, following a strong performance in Dubbo last Sunday.

Ten swimmers aged between seven and 15 years hit the pool for the annual Orana Aquatic Qualifying meet where they swooped in with medals, personal best (PB) times and two Gunnedah club records.

With coach Colin Marley at school nationals in Ballarat, senior swimmer Tahnee Steele led the team on pool deck. The 15-year-old took home four gold medals and a silver while also shaving half a second off her 50m freestyle time to break the 30-second barrier with a time of 29.47.

The Crane sisters were back in the water, with Darcie (12) and Frankie (8) clocking seven best times between them.

Frankie slashed more than nine seconds off her 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke, while Darcie dropped almost five seconds from her best time in the 50m backstroke.

The three Dalessandro sisters also lined up after their recent Sydney success. Jessica (7) broke her own Gunnedah club record in the 100m freestyle to touch the wall at 1:48.42 and take almost a second off the mark.

Darci (10) put in a solid effort to finish just outside the medals, while Macey (12) came away with gold in the 50m and 100m backstroke, and silver in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m breaststroke.

Cameron Sills (11) clocked four PBs and snatched gold medals in the 50m and 200m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle. He also won silver in the 800m freestyle where he dropped 33 seconds off the mark and claimed a club record previously held by Josh Spinks.

Cameron’s brother Aiden (9) snagged a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and claimed five best times, including an eight-second improvement in his 200m freestyle time while also taking six seconds off his 100m freestyle.

The Reeves brothers continued their strong showing, with Nathan (12) winning gold in the 200m freestyle, silver in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, and bronze in the 50m backstroke where he shaved off a second-and-a-half from his best time.

Shaun (10) gave his best in a five-race program, and he dropped more than four seconds from his best time in the 50m breaststroke.
