A fine all-round team display enabled Gunnedah to trounce Moree by seven wickets in last Sunday’s U11 representative cricket contest at Donnelly Fields.

Moree was all out for 85 with two balls remaining in its allotted 30 overs, before Gunnedah comfortably reached the target in 16.2 overs.

Six of Gunnedah’s 12 bowlers were on the wicket-taking list, while three Gunnedah players reached double figures with the bat.

The stumps were repeatedly knocked over, as all 10 of Moree’s victims were bowled while two of Gunnedah’s players were also bowled.

The other dismissal was a freakish run-out, and amazingly no catches were held although a few chances went begging.

Bailey Irwin, Oscar De Groot and Angus Snape claimed a wicket each as Moree faltered to 3-26 in the ninth over, before improving to 3-45 at the 15-over mark when the first of the innings breaks took place.

The hosts gained control in their first 15 overs, as they tallied 82 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Jack Wright’s fourth boundary took him to 32 retired off just 21 balls, while the team total was 47 in the seventh over.

Lachlan Finnerty was unluckily run out soon afterwards when the ball ricocheted from the bowler’s foot into the stumps.

Rex Plevey made 27 before Austin Legg rattled the stumps twice in successive balls, leaving Gunnedah 3-77 with one over remaining before the next change of innings.

Moree’s total reached 50 before six wickets fell for 12 runs, with Jack and Oscar nabbing two scalps each and Angus claiming another during this batting collapse while Rex also decked the stumps.

Moree was still 20 runs in arrears, before a final wicket stand of 23 ensured Gunnedah needed to bat again.

Moree’s total included 23 sundries while Campbell Vickery was the highest run scorer with 21, before Lachlan’s earlier disappointment turned to elation when he sent Campbell’s stumps crashing down.

Seven balls were needed for Gunnedah to polish off the required four runs, with Bastien Hallett fulfilling the task.

With two wins and two losses in the U11 competition, Gunnedah treks to Inverell to contest the bottom-placed Inverell on Sunday.

Gunnedah 3-87 (Jack Wright 32 retired, Rex Plevey 27; Austin Legg 2-4) defeated Moree 85 (Campbell Vickery 21; Oscar De Groot 3-4, Angus Snape 2-2, Jack Wright 2-5) by 7 wickets.
