The Namoi Bush Cricket Super 8s competition will make a return in the 2022-23 season and is expected to get underway next month.

It will be based in Boggabri, with matches to be played at Jubilee Oval once again during season two.

Games will be held on designated Sunday mornings throughout the season, with seven rounds to be held before the finals games wrap up the season.

The Namoi Bush Cricket Super 8s competition was formed in 2019 and was running successfully until it was cut short in March 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Competition organiser and a keen player himself, Craig Summers, told the Gunnedah Times that the Namoi Bush Cricket Super 8s competition would be bigger and better this season.

Six teams contested the competition in its inaugural season, which has been increased to eight for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Super 8s format is an exciting one and the competition is certainly more social than serious.

Matches consist of two eight-over innings, which makes for quick and entertaining contests.

Teams will field eight players each match day, and each player bowls one over each during the match.

Teams wear coloured clothing and the games are played using a white ball.

Each match day, all four games will be played at Jubilee Oval. Boggabri RSL Club, which is the major sponsor of the competition, will then host the eight teams for a presentation and barbecue afterwards.

After all teams have played each other once each across the seven-round regular season, all teams will play a finals game.

The finals games will also all be held on the same day, with first to take on second, third to play against fourth, fifth to meet sixth and seventh to challenge eighth.
