The Weeks of Speed in Gunnedah are not just about fast cars and motorbikes, with the Battle of the Brigades between the Rural Fire Service and 314 Gunnedah Fire and Rescue hotting up the Woolshed Reserve on the banks of the Namoi River.

The RFS and Fire and Rescue teams often work “scenes” together and this event was just one of the regular joint practices where the volunteers came together to ensure they can best support each other in times of need.

They also hold joint training regularly with volunteers from the State Emergency Services (SES).

The competing teams included 314 Gunnedah Fire and Rescue, Gunnible RFS and Gunnedah Headquarters RFS.

The “serious fun” began with a barbecue, with the volunteers then divided into groups of three  practice runs going through various drills – then at 2pm the teams vied for the coveted trophy.

This year the challenge was won by a team from 314 Gunnedah Fire and Rescue.
