Stage 2D Pop-Up Restaurant

On Wednesday, February 26, Stage 2D started the Pop Up Restaurant events of 2025. Students prepared and cooked savoury mince, which was served on top of some garlic roasted pumpkin. Students remarked how it was great to share a meal with family members, and to have Mr Diamond and Mrs Mac join them for lunch.

Stage 3A – Storm Boy Adventure: Pelican, Art and Friendship

This term, Stage 3A has been reading the Australian classic Storm Boy by Colin Thiele, and what an adventure it’s been. For those who haven’t read it, Storm Boy is a heartwarming (and at times heartbreaking) story about a young boy named Mike, who is known as Storm Boy, and his incredible bond with his father and an injured pelican named Mr. Percival. The book is set in the wild, beautiful landscape of South Australia’s Coorong, where nature and friendship collide in ways that will make you laugh, cry and maybe even hug a pelican (but probably not – they’re huge!).

Now, reading the book has been amazing, but students didn’t stop there. The class wanted to connect with the story in a creative way, so brought the world of Storm Boy into its Visual Art lessons. What better way to honour Mr. Percival’s epic adventures than by drawing their very own pelicans? And let’s just say – some of them looked more like abstract art than real pelicans, but hey, creativity has no rules!

The art lesson was a chance to dive into the world of Storm Boy and the Coorong, where pelicans soar through the skies and waddle across the shore. Each student put their own spin on what these birds might look like – some graceful, others a bit more… let’s say, quirky. Still, students all tried our best to capture that special something about pelicans: their weirdly majestic wings, their curious stares, and yes, their comical landings.

Through their drawings, students not only got to practice art skills, but also explored the deeper themes of Storm Boy. The story isn’t just about a boy and a bird – it’s about the strong connection that form with animals and nature and the importance of protecting the world around us. And while the class may have had a laugh at some of our silly pelican portraits, we were also reminded of how powerful and meaningful these relationships can be.

So here’s to pelicans, art and a fantastic term full of adventure.

Stage 2A Writing

Stage 2A have been studying the text ‘The Thing About Oliver’ by Deborah Kelly.

Students have done some amazing writing on the topic of characterisation – particularly on two of the main characters, Tilly (the narrator) and Mum. Students have been using their knowledge of characterisation, compound and complex sentences to create complex profiles of these two characters.
