Gunnedah Shire Band players have achieved great results at the NSW Solo Championships in Sydney.

The players returned with titles and placings from the event, and the level of musicianship shown was described as second-to-none.

A Gunnedah Shire Band spokesperson said it was great to see several younger players attend the contest for the first time, including Flynn and Myles McIntosh.

“They performed extremely well and the experience gained is invaluable,” the spokesperson said.

“Jasmin Mitchell placed second in U15 cornet, this is a fantastic result, especially as it was her first state competition.

“Jorja Tresize played to a high level gaining praise from both adjudicators for her lovely sound. She won both U15 and U19 horn sections. She was placed second in U19 Slow Melody with a mark of 96.

“Sarah Smith won the Open Bb Cornet, being the first player from the north west to take this title in many years. Sarah also played well in the open slow melody section, gaining a high mark. These results are testament to Sarah’s hard work and dedication.

“Sebastian Rowe continues to be a NSW premier soloist showing virtuosic qualities to win U19 Euphonium, U19 Slow Melody, U19 Champion of Champions and was placed second behind Jeffrey Ma in the Open Euphonium section.

“These soloists all represented Gunnedah Shire Band with great distinction.”
